18-28 June 2010“Family Lounge” is a domain in which we will share the experiences and works of 10 international artists who work on the family concept. This domain wishes to offer alternatives to the limited definition of family restricted to ‘nucleus’. Artists, who give us inspiration with their experiences, comments, and critiques in the creation process of families of which we want to be part of, will share the limitlessness of the force of human creation, and the efforts of reflecting it to daily life, home, and families. We hope that the Pride Week “Family Lounge” will create an unrestricted area in which the acceptance of our self-uniqueness and the responsibility-taking of creating our unique families, in contrast to the family lounges that confine us to a restricted area in order to approve the definition of family by the society, will be celebrated.
Artists who participate in the exhibition curated by Milen Nae are from Argentina, Azerbaijan, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, and Turkey. The Argentine artist Oriane Eliçabe’s documentary photography work, ‘Lesbian Mothers’, which she produced with 10 lesbian families from three countries in which the formation of homosexual families are legally permitted, and the Lithuanian Ugnius Gelguda’s work ‘Living together’ which could not have been exhibited in his country due to the law prohibiting the manifestation of homosexuality in public sphere for the protection of the psychological and moral condition of children and youngsters are among the remarkable works included in the 18. LGBTT pride week exhibition ‘Family Lounge’.
Furthermore, Nihal Mumcu’s work called ‘Genderwear’ will only be performed on the opening day, Friday July 18th, at Sanatorium civil art initiative contemporary art gallery. ‘Family Lounge’ which will be opened to visit with the opening cocktail at 19:30 will be open for 10 days.
